For women: the chaniya choli

A chaniya choli - a flared, embroidered skirt with a fitted blouse and dupatta - is the classic. Mirror work and bright colours photograph beautifully under garba lighting. Pick a skirt that is full enough to twirl but not so heavy it tires you out.

For men: the kediyu

A kediyu (a short, gathered kurta) with dhoti or kafni pyjama is the traditional look. Add a bandhani turban or a mirror-work jacket to stand out.

Footwear

You will be on your feet for hours, so comfort matters more than anything. Traditional mojri or juttis work well; avoid brand-new shoes that can cause blisters.

Accessories

Oxidised jewellery, bangles and a potli bag complete the look. Keep valuables minimal - with face-recognition entry you do not even need to carry a paper ticket.
